What is the State Bar of Georgia?
The State Bar of Georgia is a professional association of lawyers that exists to “foster among the members of the bar the principles of duty and service to the public; to improve the administration of justice; and to advance the science of law.”
All persons authorized to practice law in Georgia are required to be members of the State Bar of Georgia.
Like most other state bar associations, the State Bar of Georgia has a strict code of ethics. This ethic code is enforced by the Supreme Court of Georgia through the State Bar’s Office of the General Counsel.
What is the State Bar of Georgia Workers’ Compensation Lifetime Achievement Award?
The State Bar of Georgia Workers’ Compensation Lifetime Achievement Award (also referred to as the State Bar of Georgia Distinguished Service Award) is given annually to a member of the Bar who has made outstanding contributions to the practice and development of workers’ compensation law.
The 2022 State Bar of Georgia Workers’ Compensation Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Tom Holder at the annual Workers’ Compensation Law Institute Seminar.
“This is truly a career highlight,” said Tom Holder following the award ceremony. “To be honored like this by the peers who know me best is very humbling. Thanks to my longtime partner, Jim long, for his kind words of introduction, my current partner, Ben Gerber, for organizing the effort on my behalf, all who wrote in, the members of the firm who drove down to celebrate, my sister, Toni Holder, and last, but certainly not least, Ellene Welsh.”
In Georgia, the vast majority of employees who work for an employer with three or more employees are eligible to receive workers’ compensation insurance. Injured workers can receive lost wages and medical expense reimbursements, among other financial benefits.
