Biography
William Detwiler grew up on a farm in Camden, South Carolina, where he learned the value of hard work and determination. He attended the College of Charleston, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in criminology and a concentration in philosophy and law. As a student-athlete, Will excelled as a left-handed pitcher on the College of Charleston baseball team.
Following his undergraduate studies, Will worked with Richardson Construction Company in Columbia, SC, specializing in wetlands mitigation and earthmoving. His interest in the intersection of law and the environment led him to pursue further education at Clemson University, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources while also completing his J.D. at Elon University School of Law.
During his time in law school, Will distinguished himself as a Dean’s Scholar and served as a research assistant. He is currently co-authoring a paper on the Endangered Species Act of 1973, highlighting the intersection of environmental science and law. Will gained invaluable experience clerking for the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office and interning for the firms Chappell, Smith & Arden, as well as Chappell, Chappell & Newman.
